Why buy a Hydrotherm™ adhesive oven?

The Hyrotherm™ oven was developed as a complete solution to all the adhesive heating problems for mobile installation including: reliability, service vehicle electrical system load, heating capacity, unused adhesive storage, heating time reduction, and mobile installation in areas requiring engine shutoff. It completely solves these problems! In addition to doubling the electrical oven capacity, it also provides the benefits of operational cost savings, reduced time between jobs, and the ability to soften trim kits prior to installation. It may be installed in unheated vehicle space without affecting its performance, even during Minnesota winters. Hydrotherm ovens have been operational in service vehicles for over eight years without a single oven failure. The Hydrotherm™ oven is designed for Sika® and Sommars & Maca® warm applied adhesives.

How does it work?

All engines generate excess heat, which must normally be removed by pumping coolant through the radiator. Some on that waste heat is used by the vehicle’s cab heater, which is also attached to the engine. As the x-ray view on the sales sheet shows, the Hydrotherm™ oven is spliced into the heater hoses so that coolant is also pumped through it to warm the adhesive. Since engines operate at temperatures higher than allowable for warm applied adhesives, the oven incorporates a thermostat to control its temperature.

How is it installed?

The oven may be mounted anywhere in the vehicle. It is instated in a small cooler (supplied) to retain heat. Two holes are drilled through the bottom of the insulated cooler and vehicle floor and heater hoses are run from the oven inlet/outlet to the engine compartment where they are spliced into the existing cab heater hoses by means of the included “Y” fittings.Any service station or automotive garage can perform the installation in about 1-2 hours. The installation is not complicated, however, and many glass shops have chosen to install the oven in their own vans. Complete instructions are provided with each oven although the process is very intuitive for anyone even partially familiar with auto mechanics.

Why install it in a cooler?

Because the Hydrotherm™ oven system solves all the adhesive heating and storage problems! The cooler provides adhesive storage and preheating to cut heating time in half. It retains heat allowing engine shutoff during glass installation. Also, it provides a place where trim kits can be softened prior to installation. If space absolutely does not permit the installation of a cooler, the oven may be installed without it and will still provide 4 cartridge heating capacity.

Any risk to the service vehicle?

This installation is no different than an optional factory installed auxiliary heater which is connected to the heater hoses in the same manner as the Hydrotherm™ adhesive oven. Since all engines generate so much heat that a radiator is required to remove it, the addition of the Hydrotherm™ adhesive oven imposes no strain or load whatsoever on the engine. Compare this to the risk of shorted or overloaded circuits that is possible with the electric adhesive oven.

What additional materials are needed for installation?

About 20’ of heater hose and one gallon of antifreeze mix are all that is needed to complete the typical installation. These items are available everywhere and are stocked by garages and service stations. Everything else is provided with the oven and installation kit.

How will the Hydrotherm™ adhesive oven save money?

In many ways both from a performance and maintenance/reliability standpoint.

Performance paybacks:

• Allows product choice. The four cartridge capacity allows the installer to have both SikaTack®-Ultrafast and Sika Plus Booster products ready for use. Therefore, the installer can use the more expensive product only when required.

• Reduced adhesive waste. The four cartridge capacity also gives the installer the ability to return a partially used cartridge to the oven and still be assured of enough hot product for the next installation. As an example: For an installer that does only 5 jobs a day and discards 30% of his partial tubes due to the limited capacity of the electric oven, this benefit alone will save approximately $800 per year in wasted adhesive!!

• Improve installer productivity. The pre-warming ability of the Hydrotherm oven increases installer productivity by shortening the required interval between jobs to under 30 minutes.

• Reduced service vehicle costs. Utilizing waste engine heat and the ability to shut off the service vehicle engine during an installation saves fuel and vehicle wear.

• Reduced liability. The increased heating capacity of the Hydrotherm™ oven reduces liability by assuring that the adhesive is at temperature for the fastest possible cure.

Maintenance/Reliability paybacks:

• Eliminates service vehicle electrical problems. With the Hydrotherm™ oven, there are no risks of alternator failures, wiring harness meltdowns, cigarette outlet meltdowns, or any risk of fire.

• Eliminates dead batteries. Forgetting to turn off the electric oven will quickly result in a dead battery and unwanted delays or service calls.
